Meditation: We live in a culture that leaves no room for mystery. A society that tells us that any living thing must be visibly so. Given this materialist bias, we would mistakenly conclude that what appears to be bread could never be the body of a man.
Are we not made present at Christ's Crucifixion during Mass? When the chalice is raised during the Eucharist Prayer, Christ's blood is separated from His body. We have witnessed His death, His body being separated from his blood. Moments later, a piece of the Host is dropped into to the Eucharistic blood. I am unsure of the Latin, in English we sometimes hear may the mingling of the Body and Blood of Christ bring eternal life to those who receive it. Body and Blood are reunited, the Resurrection.
I think the purpose of the article was to discuss how the Eucharist itself is the same Body and Blood on the Cross. Such that not only are we present at the Crucifixion, but we receive the Body that was crucified as well. I think the original author would have to clarify that, though.
