This is great. I really appreciate the championing of family life in the public sphere. Leila Lawler has a new blog post about embracing the children God sends, and Dr. John Cuddeback has a series of videos you can subscribe to for no cost called "Lifecraft" that challenges men and women (in separate courses) to make their home life the central way they glorify God.

The nuclear family is a modern novelty. People always lived in extended nuclear families until recently. A mom and dad didn’t have to go it alone, there was always someone home to watch the children. And most people didn’t move around like we do now. There was stability, and family, and a rich faith life.

Sure, once upon a time it was more common to have grandma and grandpa live with you when they got old rather than dump them in a nursing home. Rather than have siblings and cousins scatter across the country, families would live closer together and have a better support network. But that hardly means the nuclear family is some sort of modern invention.
